Storm holding spring camp this weekend

The Grande Prairie Storm is hosting a spring camp this weekend, with players from across North America showcasing their skills.

Coach Kevin Higo says in addition to the 50 Swan City products that played last weekend, there are about 80 others they’ve scouted that will be taking part.

“Everybody’s going to get four ice times and the goalies are going to get an extra one to show their thing. We’re excited; we think there’s a real good competition here and some kids that you’ll see in the Storm uniform come September.”

Higo says he’s looking to add some size and speed to next year’s squad, and as always, competetive players that hold a high standard on and off the ice.

Noticeably absent will be the returning players.

Higo says the camp will only be for fresh players, as the team needs to bring in more young talent.

He adds that he’s switching up his game plan early on.

“Last year I though we did too much time evaluating at the beginning of the year and not enough time preparing, and we’re going to flip that around this year and have a lower number at camp come August so we’re ready to go for game number one.”

The camp runs Friday through Sunday at Revolution Arena and is open to the public.
