Amalgamating with the City of Grande Prairie is not on the County’s to do list.
City councillors voted Monday to start talks with their rural neighbours about unified governnance options, but Reeve Leanne Beaupre says it’s not in the county’s best interest.
She argues the most effective way to meet the varied needs of the region is to have independent municipalities working closely together.
Beaupre also notes that the Municipal Government Board still hasn’t made a decision on the current annexation application, and amalgamation talks could undermine the process.
