Prentice may call Alberta election Tuesday

An election may be called tomorrow in Alberta.

Premier Jim Prentice is said to have called candidates to an important announcement at 9 a.m. Tuesday, when an election decision is expected to be made.

A fixed election is set for spring 2016, but comments by the premier on oil prices and the recently released budget has spurred speculation one may be called in the next few weeks.

If that’s the case, Prentice will have to deliver the writ to the Lieutenant Governor for final approval.

That will kick off a 28-day election campaign, with a vote set for May 5th.
