UPDATE: John St. Jean’s wife says he now has his breathing tube out and is no longer relying on life support.
John St. Jean remains unconscious and on life support in the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton.
The 45 year old Grande Prairie man was beaten after an argument outside the Mac’s Convenience Store on 84th Avenue Thursday night, which his family said started when he tried to stop another man from harassing a young boy.
His wife says on Facebook they have been unable to wake him up safely, but that his family is by his side.
A Go Fund Me account raised thousands of dollars to help his son fly to Edmonton, but after Westjet offered to cover the cost, those funds will go to his medical bills.
24 year old Kyle Douglas Giroux is charged with aggravated assault and failure to comply with a probation order.
He will next be in court on Wednesday, April 8th.
