River Breakup Advisory issued for Town of Peace River

A River Breakup Advisory has been issued for the Town of Peace River and other parts of northwest Alberta.

The province says the ice cover on the Peace River is receding and deteriorating earlier than normal, due to the recent warm temperatures.

The ice front is currently at the end of the Shaftesbury Trail and is expected to melt and recede into the town later this weekend or early next week.

Watch out, as water and ice levels can fluctuate quickly.

Meanwhile, the snow pack in the Smoky River Basin has already melted, and the breakup of the ice cover on the Smoky and Little Smoky Rivers has not affected the Peace River so far.
