UPDATE: B.C. avalanche victims ID’d

UPDATE: The avalanche victims have been identified by the B.C. Coroners Service as 36 year old Curtis Fries of Sherwood Park and 29 year old Thomas Hamilton of Ponoka.

Two men have died after an avalanche trapped a group of snowmobilers near McBride, B.C.

Three of the four men were caught in the avalanche Saturday morning, but one was able to dig himself out immediately.

One of the trapped men was dug out by the others, but he had succumbed to his injuries.

The survivors couldn’t find the fourth man, so they went for help, but the search and rescue team waited until the next morning as the conditions were too dangerous at the time.

The second deceased man was found Sunday morning, and both were removed by helicopter.

They’ve been identified as a 29 year old from Ponoka and a 36 year old from Sherwood Park.
