Albertans warned of scam targeting job seekers

Alberta job seekers are being warned about fraudulent websites with false claims of job opportunities.

Various websites have been set up posing as fictitious oil and gas companies offering non-existent jobs in return for a fee paid in advance.

The job seeker is told that the fee is for work visas, travel expenses, or pre-screening, but after it is paid they will find out that the website was a hoax copying it’s design from other legitimate oil and gas firms in the province.

Before you send any money to a potential employer you are advised to contact their office to discuss the offer and recruitment process.

You should be wary of any offers with urgent deadlines, no interviews or requests for cash, credit card or personal information.
