Amendments on the table for pet ownership bylaw

Modifications to the city’s responsible pet ownership bylaw could be coming down the pipe.

There have been requests from some who would like an exemption from the rule that limits households to a maximum of four animals of a certain species.

Enforcement Services Manager Chris Manuel says there are certain questions that would need to be asked before an exemption can be granted.

“Would the animal have access to the outdoors or be housed outside? It will involve notification to the surrounding neighbors and an opportunity for them to provide feedback as to what concerns they may have and best practices related to a particular species and making sure the applicant is going to be compliant.”

A proposal to amend the bylaw will go before council at their next regular meeting.
