MLA Everett McDonald honoured by new position

Grande Prairie – Smoky MLA Everett McDonald has been tapped to help Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Verlyn Olson as he recovers from an islet cell transplant for diabetes treatment

McDonald has been promoted to Associate Minister for the department, one he says is a perfect fit.

“My family has a long history in agriculture, and it’s really exciting to be able to put back some of the things that I’ve learned in my years in agriculture and the three municipalities as well.”

McDonald says there will be a transition period over the next few days, and then he’s be busy taking on the minister’s responsibilities.

“We’ll be meeting with stakeholders and we’re just moving into budget here right now, so I’ll be presenting the budget on behalf of the minister, and carrying on with his duties while he’s away.”

He says he’s honoured he was chosen.
