City council is considering a bylaw amendment that would allow the erection of private signs on public city land.
However, Economic Development Officer Brian Glavin says the signs would still have to be approved on a case by case basis through city council.
“This bylaw allows any organization incorporated under the Board of Trade Act to apply to put up a sign on public property. The process to get a sign is going to require the amendment of the bylaw every time.”
The amendment was brought about after a request from the Chamber of Commerce to install a digital bill board on public land.

They will have to begin the approval process following approval of the amendment at the next city council.
