UPDATE: One dead in Hwy 40 crash south of the Wapiti

UPDATE: RCMP say no charges will be laid in the collision that killed a 34 year old Grande Prairie woman yesterday evening.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 46 year old male driver of the tanker truck was not injured.

Police say they will not be releasing the name of the deceased.

RCMP are currently responding to a fatal collision south of Grande Prairie.

Emergency crews were called to the scene on Highway 40 around 7:30 pm, after a head on collision between a tanker truck and an SUV on the hill just south of the Wapiti River bridge.

RCMP say the lone female driver of the SUV had died by the time they arrived.

The driver of the tanker truck was not physically injured.

Traffic is being re-routed around the collision but police say drivers should expect significant delays until early tomorrow morning at the earliest if they are travelling south on Highway 40.

A collision analyst has been called to the scene to determine what caused the crash.

This is the second fatal collision on Highway 40 this month, and the third for 2015.
