Volunteers needed for Canadian Cancer Society’s Daffodil Month

Throughout the month of April, Alberta residents can join the fight against cancer by purchasing live daffodils or wearing a daffodil pin.

Jaclyn Olsen, Revenue Development Coordinator for the Canadian Cancer Society in Northern Alberta, says it’s not just about raising money.

“It means support. A lot of times it’s just having that glimpse of hope there, knowing that other people are seeing you, showing up and are being present and are on the fight to really eradicate cancer, which is really our goal.”

She adds that when someone we know is diagnosed with or passes away from cancer, it’s natural to want to do something to honour them.

In order to make this year’s Daffodil Month a success, Olsen says they’re looking for around 25 volunteers to wrap flowers, canvass neighbourhoods, and sell pins.

“One of the big ones right now that we’re looking for is a youth group that would be interested in getting involved in doing flower wrapping. We are getting 120 cases delivered live April 10th; last year we did 115 cases in two days, so we’re just looking for a group that would like to come take that on.”

Volunteers can spend as few or as many hours as they can spare, all in support of local cancer patients and their families.

To help, contact the local office or register online.
