Organizers of a large scale folk festival coming to Grande Prairie next summer appeared before city council last night in search of some financial assistance.
The initial request was for $20,000, to be used as seed money to hammer down headlining acts for the event.
However, Artistic Director Sarah Card says the $10,000 council did agree to supply will go a long way to getting the ball rolling.
“So it’s going to take some time. Starting a new thing is always hard, but every great event had to have a first year at some point, and I can’t think of an event that didn’t go through a similar process where people aren’t willing to trust something until it’s tried and true.”
Card says once headlining acts are secured for the August 2016 festival, that will make the job of lining up sponsorship and ticket sales.
