After a fire razed one of Sexsmith’s three remaining grain elevators last month, there was hope that at least one would be preserved and kept as a historical landmark.
However, at the town’s city council meeting earlier this week, a bylaw to remove its historical designation was given first reading.
It would reportedly cost at least $425,000Â to install a sprinkler system, in addition to vacuuming out the dust, painting the exterior, and installing a new roof and permanent fencing.
With all that and the concern for public safety, it seems likely that both the remaining elevators will be brought down.
