Highway 40 south of the Wapiti Bridge is now open to traffic in both directions after a fatal collision between two semi trucks Monday afternoon.
The deceased driver has been identified as a 48 year old male from Sexsmith.
His passenger, a 35 year old female, remains in hospital, along with the driver of the other semi.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation but at this point it’s not believed drugs or alcohol was a factor.
Grande Prairie RCMP says there have already been 22 collisions on Highway 40 in our region this year, and this was the second fatal collision involving large trucks in less than a month.
Drivers are encouraged to use caution during the winter months.
