UPDATE 2: Police have confirmed that the collision between two semis on Highway 40, south of the Wapiti Bridge, has resulted in a fatality. Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 1:30, and the driver of one of the semis was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other semi, along with a passeger were airlifted to the QEII Hospital. STARS Air Ambulance identified one as a 32 year old female in stable condition. RCMP says it’s too early to tell what caused the collision, and a collision analyst is on the scene. Northbound traffic is reportedly getting through the scene, but not southbound. Delays are expected for at least the next three hours.
UPDATE: Highway 40 is expected to be closed south of the Wapiti Bridge in both directions for several hours. STARS Air Ambulance has transported a 32 year old female to the QEII Hospital in stable condition. Traffic is being diverted around the scene with off ramps.
Grande Prairie RCMP is currently responding to a serious collision south of the Wapiti Bridge on Highway 40.
Traffic is being affected.
