Junior B North Stars may return to Grande Prairie

The County of Grande Prairie JDA Kings made the move out to the Crosslink County Sportsplex last year, leaving the city itself without a Junior B hockey team.

The Grande Prairie North Stars hope to fill that hole, and have applied to join the North West Junior Hockey League next season.

President Jon Bruenig says long-time residents will likely recognize the name, as the North Stars played out of the Swan City 30 to 40 years ago.

“It’ll help as far as having the old alumni – the former players – out supporting us; it’s great having that connection in the 70s and 80s. I know we can continue that legacy and that name for the new generations and the new fans.”

It’s hoped the North Stars will be able to play out of the Dave Barr Arena.

The league will vote in May, but Bruenig is already looking for sponsors, board members and volunteers.
