Candy Cane Campaign hits Grande Prairie December 12th

On December 12th, drivers in Grande Prairie may get a little extra cheer when behind the wheel as Alberta Health Services will be handing out treats and tips as part of its annual Candy Cane Campaign.

“We continue to do this because people notice we are out there doing it, and it’s a great reminder that, not just through the holiday season do we want you safe and to make sure you’re following the rules of the road and being responsible if drinking through the holiday season,” says Health Promotions Facilitator Michelle Hodder.

Campaign teams will be in a yet to be determined location in the city. When motorists are pulled over, they will receive a candy cane as well as a holiday safety message.

“This is all positive messaging; there is no enforcement involved, and it’s all about spreading that good message and reminding the public what they need to be doing this time of year and throughout the year,” explains Hodder.

On top of the impaired driving aspect of the campaign, Hodder says they also hope to remind people about driving to conditions. She says things, like preparing emergencies as well as driving slowly and watching for others on the road, are equally important.

AHS will also be in High Prairie on December 13th.
