Grande Prairie MLA Tracy Allard and Grande Prairie – Wapiti MLA and Finance Minster Travis Toews will be in Grande Prairie on December 18th to host what’s being called a “Fair Deal Panel” town hall. The group has been tasked with consulting Albertans on how “best to define and secure a fair deal for Alberta and how to advance our vital economic interests, such as building energy pipelines.”
Some specific topics likely to be discussed include establishing a provincial revenue agency to collect provincial taxes directly by ending the Canada-Alberta Tax Collection Agreement and creating an Alberta Pension Plan by withdrawing from the Canada Pension Plan. The panel also plans to consult with policy experts and do other research before reporting to the government by the end of March 2020.
