Winter Whiteout postponed in hopes of colder weather

Quite a bit of work has gone into getting courses ready for Grande Prairie’s first ever Winter Whiteout Triathlon, unfortunately mild weather has thrown a bit of a wrench in things.

Areas of the cross country ski course have melted and the skating oval at the South Bear Creek Park has gotten soft because of how unseasonably warm it has been.

So organizers have bumped the event back two weeks until February 8 in hopes of colder weather restoring the courses to ideal conditions.

The upside is that there is now more time for registration, and those building the courses have some more time to perfect the facilities.

Registration is $50, and can be done on the city’s website.
