A man has been arrested after a large amount of stolen jewelry was found during a traffic stop.
On September 30th, RCMP stopped a vehicle in Clairmont. The driver and only occupant of the vehicle gave officers a false name. Police say when they told the man he was under arrest he tried to take off on foot.
He was arrested and later identified as Adam Lougheed. During a search of Lougheed’s car, police say they found a bag of jewelry, valued at around $9,100, which they say was stolen from a business in Fort Nelson, BC on September 26th.
36-year-old Lougheed has been charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, obstructing a peace officer and resisting arrest.
A hearing was held and he was released to appear in court. A warrant for his arrest has since been issued in relation to these, and other, outstanding charges.
RCMP is reminding the public of the importance of recording serial numbers and marking property. In this case, RCMP was able to successfully return the items and lay charges based on information provided to police.
