Events planned to celebrate Family Literacy Day

The Grande Prairie Children’s Literature Roundtable helping to plan some events leading up to Family Literacy Day next week.

Award winning Inuit children’s author Michael Kusugak is visiting schools in the area all this week, and the Council for Lifelong learning is hosting a craft day at the Prairie Mall next Tuesday.

Roundtable President Serena Boyte Hawryluk says the purpose of Family Literacy Day is to remind parents of the importance of helping their children learn at home.

“Families should try to have 15 minutes a day of learning together, whether it be reading, or playing a board game, or doing an activity like sorting laundry, or other chores like that can be turned into activities as well.”
