Leonard Berry handed three year sentence for 2013 officer attack

The man who plead guilty to the aggravated assault of a police officer has been sentenced to three years for his crime.

63 year old Leonard Berry of Spirit River was given credit for two years time served, as he’s been in custody since the August 2013 attack.

An RCMP officer was found beaten in a ditch and strangled with his radio cord after a traffic stop near Wanham.

A trial was held last February, but was declared a mistrial after a female witness admitted she perjured herself.

Berry’s new trial was scheduled to start yesterday before the guilty plea was entered.
