The County of Grande Prairie is asking off-road vehicle users to be careful when riding through fields. Because of a wet growing and harvest season, some farmers in the County haven’t been able to harvest crops within normal timelines.
Recent snow cover has made the crops less visible and many off-road vehicle users may not be aware of the damage and loss they are causing by driving on the fields.
“It is important to realize that our farmers’ livelihoods are out in those fields. We are asking people to be mindful and to respect private land as they take their off-road recreation vehicles out on the land. Please, ask for permission before travelling across fields,” says Agricultural Fieldman Sonja Raven.
Farmers can download stranded crop posters here that can be placed around their field. They can also call the county’s agricultural department at 780-532-9727 to get up to five free signs that say there are stranded crops present.
