Township Road 711 reopens to traffic during winter

The portion of Township Road 711 that crosses Spring Creek has reopened to traffic over the winter months.

The County of Grande Prairie says preliminary work has relieved pressure on the slide area, allowing water to flow through the culvert and traffic to safely return to using the road. With federal permits still outstanding, the remainder of the project is expected to take place next year.

The bridge and a portion of the township road had been closed since August 7th after heavy rain at the end of July caused a slumping slope, making the road and bridge unstable.

The road will have a speed limit of 30 kilometres and is subject to a road ban of 50 per cent axle weight, 24-hours a day until further notice.

An exact date for phase two has not been set yet. County council has approved $5 million for the tender to complete the repair work.
