UPDATE: Freezing rain warning for Grande Prairie area cancelled

UPDATE: As of 1 a.m. Tuesday freezing rain is no longer expected and the warning has been cancelled.

Freezing rain could be an issue for the Grande Prairie area Monday night. Environment Canada has issued a warning for the Grande Prairie – Beaverlodge – Valleyview region, saying freezing rain is expected Monday evening through Tuesday morning due to a warm front.

“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery,” it warns. “Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions.”

In Grande Prairie, the forecast is calling for the freezing rain to turn to snow before the morning. Two centimetres are expected, with the temperature warming up to minus four degrees.
