City and County urge drivers to use caution throughout the weekend

Officials with both the City and County of Grande Prairie are urging motorists to drive with caution if they must travel in the region.

The county says the continuous freeze and thaw over the last couple of days have created both muddy and icy roads which are extremely slippery. Crews will be working throughout the weekend, plowing, salting and ice blading roads throughout the county.

The City of Grande Prairie has already begun operations on plowing, salting and grading all three levels of priority routes.

A winter storm warning is forecasted do dump upwards of 30 to 40 centimetres of snow by the end of the weekend, with overnight temperatures set to drop under -20 degrees.
