Remembrance Day ceremonies in and around Grande Prairie

People across the region are preparing to honour those who fought for our country. Here’s a list of some of the Indigenous Veterans Day and Remembrance Day ceremonies and events taking place in and around Grande Prairie this Friday and Monday.

November 8th
Grande Prairie
Indigenous Veterans Day at the ANAVETS Hall on 93 Street. Coffee and muffins will be served from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. followed by a colour party marching to the Afghanistan War monument next door at the Veterans Memorial Gardens & Interpretive Centre. Lunch and fellowship will follow at the Grande Prairie Friendship Centre.

November 11th
Grande Prairie
Remembrance Day at Revolution Place- Doors open at 9:45 a.m. with the ceremony beginning at 10:45. There will also be an outdoor ceremony at the Jubilee Park Cenotaph. People will gather at 10:30 with the ceremony starting at 10:45.

Wembley
This year’s event will be held at the Source Energy Arena and Recreation Centre. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. There will be refreshments to follow the ceremony.

Sexsmith
There will be a ceremony at the Sexsmith Civic Centre starting at 10 a.m. There will be a light lunch to follow.

Beaverlodge
A Remembrance Day parade will start at Beaverlodge Elementary School at 10:30 a.m. It will move past the Centennial site before finishing at the Beaverlodge Community Centre at 11 a.m. for the service. There will be a free lunch to follow at the Anglican Church Hall on 10th Street.

Hythe
Doors open at Royal Canadian Legion Hythe Branch #93 at 10 a.m. The ceremony will start at 10:45. There will be a lunch and entertainment after the ceremony.
