Peace River approves 2015 budget, residents will see taxes go up

Peace River residents will see an increase to their residential taxes this year, to the tune of $18.30 a month.

The town has decided to implement that tax increase so they can set aside funds for the construction of a new arena and recreational complex.

The hope is that there will be enough funding to get construction started on the project by 2017, or 2019 at the latest.

Peace River Town Council wrapped up their budget deliberations earlier this week, approving their municipal budget for 2015.

$36.8 Million has been set aside for the Capital Plan, including $17.8 Million for infrastructure improvements to roads, water, sewer, transportation, facilities and equipment.

Another $17 million will go to airport upgrades, while the remaining $2 Million has been set aside for recreation related projects.
