GP Crime Prevention to talk about impact of pornography on youth

Officials with Grande Prairie Crime Prevention will be holding an event on Tuesday to discuss the dangers of internet pornography and youth.

“Being aware of what is out there, and the effects it has and how to talk to your kids. The more information you have the better you are equipped to cope with things that come up,” says Cheryl George with GP Crime Prevention.

George says the topic can sometimes make people uncomfortable but it’s something that needs to be talked about.

“With the technology we have it’s even easier and easier to come across, and a lot of times it’s by accident. You can have kids as young as eight years old put the wrong thing into a search engine, and there it is, and they can’t unsee that.”

She adds the information session is also critical when it comes to stopping unhealthy development in both men and women as they grow older, especially with the advent of social media, and those with less than honest intentions.

“If they feel like they’re not worthy of the proper love they should be getting, then they are going to think it’s ok that that person decides it’s ok to take what isn’t there’s to take.”

The Lunch and Learn takes place on Tuesday at noon at City on 99.
