TELUS pledges $190 million for Grande Prairie infrastructure

TELUS has pledged upwards of $190 million into its operations and mobile infrastructure in Grande Prairie.

The company says the cash will help increase the internet speeds available to local residents and businesses while expanding the current 4G LTE network throughout the community, and preparing wireless sites for future of 5G service in the area.

“TELUS is proud to make this generational investment in Grande Prairie, providing the technology to bridge geographic and socio-economic divides and connect citizens to the people, resources and information that make their lives better,” says TELUS President and CEO Darren Entwistle.

Grande Prairie-Wapiti MLA Travis Toews says the investment means more than cash coming into the area for telecom infrastructure.

“TELUS’ investment in our community with leading technology and infrastructure demonstrates great confidence in Alberta’s direction. Our government is creating broad-based support for job creators and this investment is an example of that – bringing 5,000 more jobs for Albertans.”

The cash slated for Grande Prairie is part of a $16 billion dollar total investment by the company in Alberta through 2023.
