New president and CEO named for GPRC

A new president and CEO has been named for Grande Prairie Regional College. Bob Murray will become the ninth person to hold both roles. He says he’s excited to come to the college and get to work.

“To be able to come in at a time when the college is moving towards becoming a degree-granting institution and to be able to capitalize on existing successes and take it to that next level is tremendously exciting for me.”

Murray has leadership experience in a number of areas including education and public policy and has previously taught at the University of Alberta, Brock University and MacEwan University.

He will be taking over from Don Gnatiuk, who previously held the roles for 12 years and officially announced his retirement on January 7th, 2019. Murray says he plans to keep the college moving on the path Gnatiuk laid out.

“I certainly come into this with the vision of wanting the college to become a degree-granting institution and wanting to see the college become an active player in the economic development and economic growth functions happening in the region.”

“Ultimately my first function is to listen to people’s opinions about how GPRC can best serve the community and how I can best serve as president,” he adds.

Gnatiuk’s last day at GPRC will be November 22nd with Murray starting in his new roles on December 2nd.
