A walk of their own: Local business raises thousands for cancer research

After losing her mother in law, and more recently two close friends and patients to cancer, Dr. Indir Dhir and her staff from Plaza Dental Clinic are doing more than talking the talk, they’re walking the walk.

Over a dozen of them took to Muskoseepi Park on Wednesday to take part in their own interoffice walk to raise money and awareness for cancer research.

“I thought, ‘October is cancer month, lets so something locally’,” Dhir says.

“Any vision that I’ve ever had with my staff, they’ve always come through with it and have always stood beside me,” she adds.

Living in Grande Prairie for 29 years, and running a practice for the last 25, Dr. Dhir says she has come to know many people in the area like family, and the thought of being able to produce some good change was something she and her staff were happy to take part in.

“This is something that we have to do on a daily basis to see what we can do, help in our community and raise these kinds of funds so organizations can find a cure.”

Dr. Dhir adds she will match whatever her office mates will be able to raise from friends and family, with the latest count sitting just above $2,000 going to the Canadian Cancer Society.
