Aquatera, City set to host “Drop n’ Swap”

If you’re looking to do a closet purge shortly, an upcoming event may help you shed some old clothing and help out others in need. Aquatera and the City of Grande Prairie, in partnership with Goodwill Industries of Alberta and Mama’s for Mama’s Grande Prairie, have teamed up for a Drop n’ Swap.

They are looking for donations of new and gently used clothing for men, women, and children, as well as Halloween costumes.

“The ‘Drop n’ Swap’ promotes waste reduction by offering the community a chance to upcycle clothing items,” says Jessica Foley, Environmental Outreach Specialist with the City of Grande Prairie. “Beyond reducing textile waste, at the event residents may learn how to lower energy consumption and reduce food waste.’

The two-day event kicks off on October 18th from 12 to 8 p.m., when people can drop off their items at the Ernie Radbourne Pavilion at Muskoseepi Park. People can then return Saturday from 12 to 4 p.m. to swap them for items they may have their eye on.

Anything left from the swap will be donated directly to Goodwill, which will then be made available to the public for purchase.
