Grande Prairie-Mackenzie all-candidates forum set for Thursday

Four out of the five candidates in the Grande Prairie – Mackenzie riding will be on stage Thursday to answer questions and concerns from potential constituents.

CPC Candidate Chris Warkentin, Liberal Candidate Ken Munro, People’s Party of Canada Candidate Doug Burchill and NDP Candidate Erin Alyward have all confirmed their participation. Shelley Termuende is not scheduled to take part, according to the Grande Prairie Chamber of Commerce.

The all-candidates forum, hosted by the chamber, will allow each candidate the opportunity to give their pitch as to why people should vote for them. They’ll also answer questions submitted from the audience one at a time, without interruption.

Chamber of Commerce Marketing and Communications Manager Tom Pura has said the forum format trumps the debate format when it comes to this kind of event.

“It just gives all candidates the opportunity to speak openly on a variety of topics, and frankly, debates tend to occasionally get a little messy,” he said.

The event will kick off with a meet and greet with the candidates starting at 5:30 p.m., with the forum itself running from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Douglas J. Cardinal Performing Arts Centre on the Grande Prairie Regional College campus.
