UPDATE: Highway 40 reopened after fatal collision

UPDATE #2: Highway 40 at the Cutbank River has reopened after this morning’s fatal collision.

UPDATE #1: Police are still working to identify the next of kin of the male victim of a crash on Highway 40, approximately 80 kilometres south of Grande Prairie. The collision between two trucks occurred around 7:45 a.m. and the driver was pronounced dead on the scene. The highway remains closed in both directions at the Cutbank River and drivers are asked to find an alternate route. 

There has been a fatal accident on Highway 40 at the Cutbank River, and traffic has been stopped in both directions.

Grande Prairie RCMP says there was a collision between two trucks earlier this morning, and one if the drivers has passed away.

No other injuries have been reported.

The highway has been closed for a collision analyst to investigate.

At this point it is to early to say what factored into the crash.
