Grande Prairie area temperatures expected to plummet

A special weather statement has been issued for Grande Prairie as temperatures are expected to plummet over the next 48 hours. Environment Canada says a brutal cold front will be close behind a low pressure system coming from the north, bringing with it high winds and far colder than average temperatures for this time of year.

Tuesday’s high is only expected to be one degree Celsius. That’s a stark difference from the double digit high forecast for Monday.

Drivers heading south are also being warned of possible snowfall. Highway 93 could see 15 to 25 centimetres and a snowfall warning is in effect for the higher elevations.
