Beaverlodge moves Family and Community Support Services in house

After 15 years of contracting with the County of Grande Prairie, officials with the Town of Beaverlodge have decided to move Family and Community Support Services in house.

FCSS offers home support for residents, along with a variety of public education programs, with services for seniors, families and youth.

Beaverlodge CAO Karen Gariepy says this was not a move that was taken lightly, and it has been in the works for some time.

“It was a conversation that happened when we started discussing budgets, and we thought it would be wise at that time to look into it and as I said when we moved into our new town office back in July, it really showed us that there was no reason why we couldn’t do it ourselves.”

She says financially, it will have little to no effect on either the services provided to the public or the town’s budget.

“Because we were contracted to the county, we were giving them that money for expenditures, along with an administration fee, so there is no financial implication.”

The official changeover isn’t expected to take place until 2020.
