Hundreds to visit Grande Prairie for Rotary District Conference

More than 500 Rotarians are expected to be in Grande Prairie this week for this year’s Rotary District 5370 Conference.

5370 District Governor Tracey Vavrek says the event is all about bringing together like-minded people and showing them how to better serve others.

“The conference is focused around inspiring and engaging people in philanthropy and giving back and doing more for communities both locally and abroad.”

Each year, the conference is held where the district-elect is from. This will be the second time it’s been held in Grande Prairie in the last few years.

Attendees to this year’s conference will be coming from places like BC, Saskatchewan, the Northwest Territories, Belgium, and Mexico. With that many visitors coming from out of town, Vavrek says this conference will also be an economic boost for Grande Prairie.

“There’s definitely an economic opportunity for our community as well. I know the hotels have been filling up quite quickly and the opportunity to support our local businesses at restaurants is really important as well.”

The three-day event will feature a number of speakers including Authors Amanda Lindhout and Neil Pasricha, Restaurateur Mark Brand and Comedian James Cunningham. The conference runs from October 3rd to 5th at the Tara Centre at Evergreen Park.
