MD of Greenview hosting two-day risk assessment course in Valleyview

A number of agencies in Valleyview will be getting some special training this week. The MD of Greenview has provided the funding for groups to attend a Level One Violence Threat Risk Assessment Training Course on October 1st and 2nd.

“The MD of Greenview Council is pleased to provide the
funding necessary to deliver this valuable training for people within the boundaries of Greenview. Training like this helps all communities to become safer and better places to live,” says Reeve Dale Smith.

The course is put on by the North American Center for Threat Assessment and Trauma Response. It brings together groups such as school divisions, RCMP, Mental Health and Children and Family Services and teaches them how to spot when someone might be a danger to themselves or others.

The program also looks at longer-term solutions as well as looking at providing assistance to allow a person to be reintroduced into the community and schools.

The same type of training is used in 281 communities across Canada and in approximately 45 per cent of the school divisions in Alberta.

Sixty-six participants in Greenview and the surrounding areas will take part in the two-day event. It will be held at the Burnside Performing Arts Centre.
