Canada Post delivery resuming after thefts from rural mailboxes

Grande Prairie was the victim of a higher number of mail thefts this holiday season, but it wasn’t only rural mailboxes that were targeted.

Canada Post spokesperson Anick Losier says a mail carrier’s personal vehicle was also stolen last week.

“It seems that they were following our carrier, and in broad daylight they blatantly stole the vehicle. So certainly we’re asking the for the help of the population, to see if they know anything they should certainly contact local police.”

Officers found the vehicle over the weekend, but only recovered a small amount of the stolen mail.

Rural Grande Prairie residents who had their mail delivery suspended over the holidays should see service resume by Friday.

Canada Post had asked some addresses to pick up parcels at the main office, after several rural mailboxes were targeted by thieves.

Losier says the boxes have been repaired, and their goal now is to catch the people responsible.
