Grande Prairie Storm raring to go ahead of first regular season home game

The Grande Prairie Storm are happy to be home after a three-game road trip to start the regular season, and coaches hope they will be returning be a packed house at Revolution Place.

Head Coach Matt Keillor says a new crop of players this year has made things exciting for the franchise, and he thinks one of the keys to recruiting a strong class is the opportunities they can provide in the City of Grande Prairie on and off the ice.

“Once we get kids up here and they meet the staff, they see the city and the facility and all the things that are going on up here it’s usually an easy sell from that point. That’s kind of half the battle.”

Keillor, who signed a two-year extension in the offseason, says as far as the on-ice product goes, he believes it’s very much a sum of all parts approach which will be the key to victory.

“This is as close as we’ve had to what we feel [is] four full lines, six defencemen and a goalie that on any given night any one of them can give you an opportunity to win.”

The Storm had 30-win regular season in 2018-2019 but couldn’t get past the Fort McMurray Oil Barons in the first round of the AJHL playoffs.

Puck drop for the home opener against the Lloydminster Bobcats is set for Friday at 7:30 p.m.
