County firefighters visiting rural, remote properties in search of water sources

For the rest of the month, County of Grande Prairie firefighters will be visiting rural and remote properties in the county to look for and test out water sources.

Firefighters will be in uniform and driving in marked vehicles. They will be taking notes and pictures to record the sites and in some cases, may also draw water from standpipes, which are tubes that extend under the surface of a water source and come out where a truck can access them.

The initiative is part of the County’s work to improve emergency response times which includes knowing in advance where all the water sources are located.

For standpipes on private property, the testing crew will attempt to make contact in person with the property owner to notify them of their actions.

Residents living on rural or remote properties with old standpipes or water sources are asked to call the Regional Fire Service at 780-532-9727 and let them know.
