Thirteen local bars take home 2019 Best Bar None honours

Thirteen Grande Prairie bars have received their AGLC Best Bar None accreditation this year. The accreditation program judges bars on factors like how they deal with violence and drugs as well as their workplace safety and cleanliness standards.

At a ceremony on Tuesday, Madhatters was the biggest winner of the night beating out Diamonds Gentleman’s Club and The Den for best bar/club as well as picking up best food, best staff and overall best bar as voted on by Grande Prairie residents.

General Manager Casey Brien says the awards are a testament to all the work the staff puts in.

“It feels great to know that the community cares about us and that they know that we care about them.”

Also taking home honours Tuesday night was Boston Pizza Westgate who was given its third year of accreditation as well as the trophy for Best Lounge for the first time.

Bar Manager Janessa Tucker says their goal is always to make sure everyone who visits their location feels like they’re among friends.

“I feel like everyone I work with is my friend and I want customers to feel the same way when they come in; that everyone’s welcome and they’re at home and we’re there to take care of them and make sure they have a good time.”

Other trophy winners included the Great Northern Casino for Best Casino and Howlers Lounge at Grande Prairie Regional College for Best Campus Bar.

This year’s accredited bars also included Better Than Fred’s, Crown and Anchor Pub, Diamonds Gentleman’s Club, The Den, The Industry, Bar One, Boston Pizza Northgate, Browns Socialhouse and Trumps Lounge.
