County crews in design phase of Township Road 711 bridge repairs

Crews are preparing to repair the bridge on Township Road 711 between Range Road 71 and 72 that was closed in August due to flooding.

The County of Grande Prairie says that geotechnical work is complete and construction design is currently underway. Because the project involves work on a road and surrounding slope that cross a body of water, permits were also required from Fisheries and Oceans Canada and applied for.

The bridge, which goes over Spring Creek, and a portion of Township Road 711 were closed after heavy rain on July 25th caused water levels in the creek to rise.

During repairs, drivers are asked to use Range Road 73 and Township Road 710 to access Range Road 72 or Range Road 71 to access Township Road 712. Heavy traffic is asked to avoid the area by using Highway 40 and Highway 43.

County council has approved $5 million for the tender to complete the repair work. At this time, no date has been released for when the road will reopen.
