County Reeve Leanne Beaupre looks back on 2014

Breaking in a new council, saying farewell to some long term members of staff, and the annexation hearing were just a few notable moments of 2014 for the County of Grande Prairie.

Reeve Leanne Beaupre says a couple of the County’s long serving staff members retired this past year, including former Public Works Director Herb Pfau, who was with the County for 39 years.

“Dale Van Volkingbirgh took over that job and then Jon Simpson, our former Director of Planning and Development, retired as well. Nick Lapp was named his replacement, so credit to the gentleman that retired, they did a great job of transitioning and so it was fairly seamless.”

Beaupre says as well, the county continued to see huge growth in 2014.

“I think year-to-date, the development permits are higher than last year, which was our third busiest year. So we’re beginning to see a trend of high numbers of development permits and of course construction values followed that permit trend.”

Beaupre says as well in 2014, more than 20 million dollars was put into County roads, which she says speaks to the volume of people living, working, and commuting through the County on a regular basis.
