PWPSD superintendent pushing for new school sites this upcoming year

Peace Wapiti Public School Division Superintendent Bob Stewart is hoping to get the green light to build some new schools this upcoming school year.

Despite none being announced for the division, Stewart says a replacement for Peace Wapiti Academy, located north of the city, and a new school near Five Mile Hall are still top of mind.

“We’ve been working closely with the County of Grande Prairie to secure a school site for a replacement school east of Grande Prairie on the Five Mile Hall quarter. Recent correspondence from the province has indicated that we have met the requirements for securing land and now we must wait for a school announcement.”

Stewart says there’s a very good reason for the locations of the division’s proposed new schools.

“By having our schools located outside of the city limits we will hopefully be able to avoid the congested city traffic and traffic lights and hopefully reduce ride time for students to and from school.”

Stewart says they are just waiting on approval from the provincial government. Students head back to school on September 3rd.
