Nitehawk celebrating earliest full opening in 54 years

As of today, all runs at the Nitehawk Recreation Area ski hill are open for skiers and snowboarders to enjoy.

General Manager Duane Stevenson says in Nitehawk’s 54 years of operation, they’ve never had all the runs open this early.

“Mother nature was on our side, but we’ve also changed some technology at the ski hill, so I give the snow makers credit here because we’ve got some new things that we’ve tried, and we’re making snow at warmer temperatures. That’s huge because we’re able to sneak out and make snow a few evenings that we normally wouldn’t.”

That’s not all that the hill has set up in time for the holidays.

Stevenson says they’ve also now got a bus running from the Eastlink Centre to the hill every day through the holidays.

“So we’ll be providing that service throughout the whole Christmas season, and if it works out well, we’ll continue it on for the winter. There’s a desire for people to have that ride down there.”

The buses will be parked at the Eastlink Centre about an hour before the hill opens to collect skiers.

A round trip is $10 each, or $5 one way.

The hill is open every day through the holidays except for Christmas eve, Christmas Day, and New Years Day.

Hours are 11-5, except for Boxing Day, when the lift will start running at 10 am.
