Bear Creek Outdoor Pool set for Saturday morning reopening

Nearly six years after closing to the public, city officials have confirmed to mygrandeprairienow.com that the Bear Creek Outdoor Pool will re-open to the public on Saturday.

“We are as happy as the rest of the community to see the Grande Prairie Outdoor Pool re-open this weekend,” says Mayor Bill Given.

“Since 1964 it has been a place where summer memories have been made for many generations, and we are thrilled to now open up the newly renovated facility as we make the most of the end of summer, and continue to make it a landmark location for years to come.”

The city had said as recently as June of this year that a lack of consistently dry weather was the culprit when it comes to several delays in the project getting completed. As consultation crews needed to apply multiple layers of pool basin coating, but unfavourable weather conditions consistently prevented that from happening.

The pool will be open Monday to Friday 11 a.m – 7 p.m, and from noon – 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, with an hour closure between 4 and 5 p.m.

The pool was originally built in 1964 but was closed in 2013 when a large crack was noticed in the structure. Officials say the completed project was well within the $5,000,000 budget.
