Horse, dinosaur racing taking place on final race weekend at Evergreen Park

This weekend will be the last racing weekend of the season out at Evergreen Park and a number of events are planned to mark the occasion.

Racing runs on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with the final three Bank of America Challenge races taking place. In the ARC Distaff Challenge, seven horses are racing for $22,253 in purse money.

Next up is the John Deere Juvenile Challenge where seven horses will be competing for a purse of $34,595. Racing wraps up that day with the regionals open to three-year-olds and up with a purse of $39,457.

All winners have the chance to move on to the Bank of America Challenge Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico this October. Friday and Saturday races start at 6 p.m.

Then on Sunday, the park will go purple for the annual Mr. Mike’s Race for the Cure, to raise awareness for Pancreatic Cancer. There will be games, prizes and a silent auction, with races starting at 1 p.m.

Everything will wrap up with the first-ever Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum Dino Derby taking place after the horse racing is done. All races and events are free to attend.
